Product Manager

    NetBooks’ mission is to revolutionize the way small businesses are managed. Using a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model, NetBooks addresses the long-standing need for a comprehensive, easy-to-use business management system for America’s 5.1 million True Small Businesses (owner-operated firms with fewer than 25 people).

    NetBooks is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, self-starting product manager to join our team.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Assume hands-on definition of new product features and enhancements from market research, competitive analysis, win/loss analysis and user testing feedback.
    • Negotiate with engineering and QA on release functionality and schedules. Make tradeoff decisions between functionality, resources and schedules as needed to ensure NetBooks’ product leadership.
    • Identify, negotiate and manage strategic partnerships with third-party software providers to build the NetBooks product ecosystem.
    • Follow and analyze industry trends, collect and analyze customer needs, collect and research competitive information.
    • Support marketing and sales activities as needed, particularly to create marketing collateral and other sales tools.

     

    Qualifications:
    • At least 3 years of experience in product management. Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, MRD/PRD writing, and project management.
    • Track record of leading complete life cycles of winning products in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a small startup company with strong market-driven product development processes.
    • Extensive experience and direct involvement with any of the following:
      • Internet commerce or web-intensive businesses
      • Back-end software products, especially complex, mission-critical applications and web-based tools
      • Service-related businesses serving large user communities
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer sciences or equivalent experience. Masters degree in engineering or MBA is a plus.
    • Understanding of technologies, such as Ruby on Rails, web services (XML/SOAP), web-based graphical user interfaces, and relational databases.
    • Excellent analytical skills. The ability to analyze each possibility, to separate edge-cases from core objectives, to assess trade-offs in light of what’s doable and to devise tests for assumptions and conclusions.
    • Passionate and high-energy team player with demonstrated leadership, negotiation and communication skills.
    • Experience with distributed teams and agile methodologies a plus.
    • Familiarity with small business accounting a plus.
